Green light for Fakenham Sports Centre redevelopment

PLANNING permission has officially been granted for the extensive redevelopment of Fakenham Sports and Fitness Centre, marking a significant milestone in the town’s journey towards enhanced health and wellbeing facilities.

The project, led by North Norfolk District Council in partnership with Alliance Leisure and operated by Everyone Active, will see the transformation of the existing centre into a modern, inclusive and accessible hub for sport and physical activity.

Chris Ames, business development manager at Alliance Leisure, said: “We are proud to be partnering with North Norfolk District Council on this exciting project.

“Our goal is to create a modern, inclusive, and vibrant facility that meets the needs of the entire community. “From swimming and fitness to social spaces, the new leisure centre will be a hub of activity and wellbeing for Fakenham for years to come.”

The approved plans include the construction of a new four-lane, 25-metre community swimming pool, a 55-station fitness suite and the refurbishment of existing studio spaces and changing areas.

The redevelopment is part of a broader vision to meet the growing demand for high-quality leisure facilities in Fakenham and the surrounding areas. The project has been made possible through a successful Levelling Up Fund bid submitted by the Council in 2022, with strong backing from Fakenham Town Council, local MPs and more than 1,000 residents who participated in public consultations.

The development will also involve the demolition of the existing pavilion to make way for the new facilities.
