LEX Leisure, subcontractor of leading operator Parkwood Leisure, in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council, has successfully delivered the first project in a £5.2m series of refurbishment and decarbonisation updates for its sites across Rushcliffe, continuing their journey towards carbon neutral.
The funding has enabled the replacement of Cotgrave Leisure Centre’s outdated heating and hot water systems with new modern, low carbon air source heat pumps.
These heat pump units will use electricity from renewable sources to efficiently draw heat from the air and transfer it into the swimming pool and surrounding areas, resulting in a 250 per cent to 300 per cent increase in energy efficiency, ensuring the leisure centre operates at its best for the local community.
In addition, solar panels installed on the roof will generate up to 55,000KWH of electricity a year, saving up to £25,000 on running costs – the equivalent to running power for 20 houses.
The refurbishment goes beyond decarbonisation to improve accessibility and the overall member experience for the local community, including:
• Installation of a Changing Places toilet.
• A revamped reception area with widened corridors and improved layouts.
• Upgraded fitness spaces, including a dedicated spin studio and expanded dance studio with advanced lighting and sound systems.
• Modernised poolside changing rooms to enhance comfort for swimmers.
Building on the success of Cotgrave, the next phase of this £5.2m investment will see works begin at Keyworth Leisure Centre in the summer.
