SNAP Fitness will open four 24/7 gyms in three different countries in the coming weeks, all in retail park locations.
In the next six weeks it will open gyms in the Treliske Retail Park in Truro, M Park Central 12 in Southport, Tullamore Retail Park in the Republic of Ireland and Parc y Llyn in Aberystwyth, Wales.
The units were in high demand from household retail brands, with gyms being an increasingly popular addition to landlords’ retail schemes to complement their other businesses.
“Retail parks tick a lot of boxes for a successful Snap Fitness gym and are a key part of our future growth,” said Paul Stephenson, franchise operations director at Snap Fitness EMEA.
“Convenience is a huge consideration factor when joining a gym and retail parks traditionally give you large units with great, natural footfall near a town or city centre, as well as free parking for members.
“The fitness industry has never been healthier with more people in the UK having a gym membership than ever before, which makes us an attractive proposition to landlords.
“It’s testament to the fantastic work of our property team to secure these prime locations, particularly with stern competition from some huge, household retail businesses.”
The openings will take Snap Fitness past the 100-gym milestone across the UK and Ireland and cement its place as one of the largest private gym operators in the UK.
Properties such as these retail park units are hand-selected by the brand’s in-house property team based on detailed data and insights. The increased consumer demand for gym memberships and Snap Fitness’ commitment to improving its member experience has seen its new gyms in 2024 open with an average of 44 per cent more members than gyms that opened in 2023.
